Summertime in the High Country is the perfect time to get outside and get yourself some culture. During the warmest months of the year, there are many different options for summer concerts for you and your family to enjoy every night of the week. Whether it is traditional High Country tunes you are seeking, or more contemporary jams you are sure to find exactly what you are looking for at a High Country Summer Music Concert.
Music on the Lawn
at the Best Cellar
What could be more relaxing after a hard week’s work than lounging in a beautiful garden and enjoying live music in the warm summer sunshine with friends and family? For half a decade, the Music on the Lawn Concert Series at the Inn at Ragged Gardens in Blowing Rock has done just that.
When? Every Friday night beginning May 9 from 5:30 to 8:30pm the front lawn of the inn comes alive with music and excitement for families, couples and more. The family-friendly events have become known throughout the downtown Blowing Rock area as one of the best places to start off a relaxing weekend.
More than Just Music: Other than live music, Music on the Lawn also boasts a full outdoor bar and small finger foods for guests to enjoy while they relax in the sun. They also host nonprofit organizations such as the Watauga Humane Society in order to help raise awareness and give back to the community.
Regulars, residents and visitors alike come out each Friday in the summer to soak it all in, sometimes as many as 400 people attending each concert. The shows are played by bands local to the High Country to showcase the great, local talent.
Cost: All concerts are free of charge, however, no outside food or drinks are permitted, and pets are not allowed inside the gardens.

The Jones House
Concerts on the Lawn

In the heart of beautiful downtown Boone sits the historic Jones House Community and Cultural Center. Built in 1908, the Jones House overlooks the bustling King Street in the center of the town, and on Friday evenings, that view can be enjoyed along with live music. On summertime Friday nights, hundreds of excited patrons fill up the front lawn to listen to free concerts played on the porch, from traditional bluegrass picking to more contemporary tunes, with popular regional acts and local favorites entertaining the crowds all evening. The Jones House Community and Cultural Center is located at 604 West King St. and the concerts begin at 5pm Snag your lawn chairs or grab a blanket to spread on the ground and make a night of downtown Boone starting at the Jones House.
On Thursday nights, the Jones House hosts Old-Time Jam Sessions starting at 7:30pm The jam sessions are free and open to musicians, dancers and spectators and frequently feature folk songs, bluegrass and more.

Concerts in the Park
Scenic Banner Elk is the setting for the Thursday evening Concerts in the Park, which take place at Tate Evans Park, an outdoor amphitheater where free concerts are played to the masses. Concerts begin at 6:30 pm. Spectators bring lawn chairs and coolers to listen to their favorite local groups from blues to bluegrass, and everyone gets excited about the weekly raffle giveaway. This smaller concert in a small town is one of the highlights of any High Country trip.

Music in the
Valle Concert Series

The “Music in the Valle” is an annual summer concert series held in Valle Crucis Community Park. On Friday evenings, guests can gather in the park to take in some tunes and some sunshine. From May 23- Sept. 5, locals and visitors flock to the park for some of the best live music around.
Admission to the concerts is completely free, however since the park is run on donations, a $5 donation per person is recommended. It is also recommended that guests bring a blanket or chair, as well as a picnic if they are planning on staying a while. Outside food is always permitted, as food is not generally available for sale during the concerts. Concerts begin at 7pm, and 6:30pm after Aug. 15.

Concerts at the Gazebo
Located in scenic Beech Mountain, Fred’s General Mercantile offers summer concerts at the gazebo. These smaller shows are the perfect excuse to head 5,506 feet up to beautiful Beech Mountain and make a day of the scenic town. Don’t forget to check out the merchandise in Fred’s General Mercantile or grab a sandwich or two from the deli that the locals have been enjoying for 35 years. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.

Green Park Inn
Music on the Veranda
What first started as a summertime music series on the veranda has become a year-round Sunday tradition for many High Country residents and visitors. Every Sunday at 6 p.m., the music gets started at the new Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock and guests flock to the tunes to enjoy an evening of great music and delicious food.
Started last summer, the Green Park Inn Music on the Veranda was so popular that it carried on indoors in the Chestnut Grille in the winter. Folks come down every weekend to enjoy the music of The Harris Brothers, The Neighbors, Mountain Radio and many more.
In the summer, the music gets going outside as Music on the Veranda and provides a great way to spend a summer Sunday afternoon in the sunshine while enjoying a delicious meal from the Green Park Inn. The new Chestnut Grille is a casual dining experience that features the beautiful wood that much of the Green Park Inn is made of, Chestnut.
Sunday evenings also offer the famous Green Plate Special, a special meal at a special price just for the occasion. Green plate specials are $12.95 complete with entrée and salad and there is a different entrée featured every week.

The beautiful historic town of Todd is home to the free summer music concert series at Cook Memorial Park. Grab a lawn chair, a blanket or just sit yourself down in the grass at the park to enjoy a free summer concert that features varied acts like local bluegrass, blues, and folk music. The summer concert series is active two Saturdays a month during June, July and August.
