History
Held annual each fall, Oktoberfest is a world-famous German folk festival. It is considered one of the world’s most fun-filled celebrations. Oktoberfest is best known for the free-flowing, hearty German beer. The celebration officially begins each year when the Lord Mayor of the city taps the first keg, symbolizing the celebration of the season’s first brew. The first Oktoberfest was held nearly 200 years ago in celebration of Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese. Since then, the German Oktoberfest has grown in side and is known worldwide for its friendly and festive atmosphere.
Chairlift Rides
You can’t afford to pass up the breathtaking panoramic views of the beautiful fall colors atop Sugar’s 5,300-foot peak this October. The enjoyable round trip lift ride takes approximately 45 minutes and runs from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. during Oktoberfest. Lift prices are $12 for a one-time ride, $25 for an all day ticket and children 4 and under ride free with a paying adult. Groups of 20 or more can buy one-time ride tickets for only $8. To help wash it down an ample supply of beer will generously flow each day until 5pm. Spaten Oktoberfest Beer, first crafted in 1872, is the world’s first Oktoberfest beer, brewed especially for the festival. If Bavarian cuisine isn’t your thing, there will be American hot dogs, hamburgers, sodas, cotton candy, kettle corn, funnel cakes, candy apples and other festive foods on hand to satisfy.
