Twelve years old, Carolina Barbeque, located in downtown Newland, just 4 miles from Linville and Grandfather Mountain, is STILL Smokin! Rated among the top 100 BBQ restaurants in North Carolina (no small feat mind you), the restaurant offers some of the best chopped pork, ribs and chicken in the South. In fact, Dr. Keith Johnson, certified BBQ judge and author of “Piggin’ Out,” said Carolina BBQ ribs were the “best ribs [he’d] ever eaten.” The menu features include chopped barbeque covered in a variety of sauces from the traditional to vinegar-based, smoked or fried chicken, ribs, and side items such as corn and baked beans, fries and coleslaw. Carolina Barbeque also features a children’s menu, appetizers, such as mozzarella sticks and chili-cheese fries, and homemade desserts including peach cobbler and banana pudding. The restaurant offers live entertainment on the weekends and Monday nights spotlighting acoustic, bluegrass and gospel music and clogging. Owner Dave Calvert has dubbed the restaurant home of the pick -n- pig parlor. Come see us and then check out the town of Newland.
