Wineries
In The High Country
The local wine industry began in 2003 when Steve and Sally Tatum planted their first vines on the slopes of Grandfather Mountain. What began as a hobby has blossomed into Grandfather Vineyards, a full fledged winery, complete with a 1,000-square-foot tasting room featuring a 17-foot white oak bar. The winery has 5 acres of planted grapes. Following in their footsteps, Linville Falls Winery, a 10-acre vineyard, opened its doors in 2012. Operated by the Wiseman family, who also owns one of the area’s oldest and most successful Christmas tree farms. The winery’s founder, Jack Wiseman, has been making wine for 60 years. The Tuscan-inspired winery is housed in a beautiful building. The Blind Squirrel have also been making their own wines for several years and have already won awards for their signature wines. A fine start for the local wine industry that is one worth delving into - glass in hand.
